One woman dead, another injured in wreck that partially shut down Idaho freeway
BLISS — Idaho State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash that occurred at approximately 7:59 a.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024, on eastbound Interstate 84 at milepost 142 near Bliss. A 71-year-old female from Nampa was traveling eastbound in a Chevrolet Silverado. She drove off the road, returned to the roadway and struck the trailer of a semi-truck, which was traveling eastbound, being driven by a 41-year-old male from Florida. The female driver was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. Her passenger, a 65-year-old female from Boise, succumbed to injuries at the scene. All occupants were wearing seatbelts. All eastbound lanes of travel were blocked for approximately six hours.

The pilot of a helicopter and three firefighters on board the aircraft were injured after a crash landing about 25 miles east of Burley on Friday evening, authorities said. The incident occurred when the helicopter was returning to Pocatello from the Stockdale Fire in Nevada, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service. Emergency personnel responded to the incident and transported the helicopter pilot and the three Forest Service firefighters onboard to Cassia Regional Hospital in Burley, where they were treated and released, authorities said. The U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and National Transportation Safety Board officials are actively investigating the incident.
