Rocky Mountain Power plans series of rate increases for Idaho customers through 2026

Citing rising fuel and power costs, along with its own investments into transmission and renewable generation projects, and rising wildfire insurance premiums, Rocky Mountain Power of Idaho in May filed for major general rate increases for 2025 and 2026.

As proposed, the plan would deliver an overall rate increase of 19.4 percent as of Jan. 1, 2025, followed by an increase of 6.3 percent on Jan. 1, 2026. However, the company added that the average residential customer would see monthly bill increases of about 17.9 percent ($19.90) and $5.3 percent ($6.94), respectively. Rocky Mountain Power filed this request with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission.

Recognizing the significant cost additions these would bring, Rocky Mountain Power requested the two separate rate changes to ease the overall burden. This marked its first call for a general rate adjustment since 2021.

From here, regulators will assess the request and decide whether to approve it as-is or modify it accordingly. That could take several months, and the final rate could be lower than the company’s request, depending on the commission’s ruling.

The public will also be able to comment as the commission assesses Rocky Mountain Power’s request.
