Officials on Thursday released the name of a driver who died about two weeks after a crash in Caldwell that caused the man’s pregnant passenger to miscarry.

Jason Heinrichs, 47, of Caldwell, was driving near the Middleton and Lincoln roads intersection shortly before 11 p.m. on July 22 when he “made slight contact with another vehicle before driving off the side of the road and landing in a ditch,” the Caldwell Police Department said in a news release.

Responding Caldwell officers found Heinrichs and a woman stuck in the vehicle and helped extricate them. Both were taken by ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

Heinrichs died at the hospital from injuries related to the accident at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday, the Ada County Coroner’s Office said in a news release Thursday. The coroner’s report listed Heinrichs’ cause of death as “complications of blunt force trauma.”

Heinrichs’ passenger was 39 weeks pregnant and miscarried shortly after the accident, according to police.

On July 23, the Caldwell Police Department said charges against Heinrichs were pending.

“This is very tragic and heartbreaking,” Caldwell Police Chief Rex Ingram said in a news release at the time. “There is no excuse for driving impaired and the blatant disregard for human life.”

Caldwell police spokesperson Char Jackson told the Statesman on Thursday that no charges were ever filed and that the investigation was still open.

Police said occupants in the other vehicle were not injured.
