A bull elk was spotted looking for love in all the wrong places — in Colorado cities bustling with people but no other elk, photos show.

Wildlife officials stepped in to help the lost loverboy get back to the wild to mingle with elk during the height of mating season, also known as the rut.

Elk in Englewood ? Never say never,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife Northeast Region said in a Sept. 23 post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “This bull elk had a very busy weekend, (traveling) from Lakewood to Denver to Englewood near Santa Fe & (Hampden).”

Photos show the elk grazing in a home’s front yard.

“He was in a bad place for elk and close to some highways, so we stepped in to help,” the agency said. “Officers darted the lost elk and loaded him up into a trailer for relocation.”

Photos show the elk blindfolded lying on the grass and a sidewalk in the neighborhood.

“We released the elk in better wildlife habitat, making noise and yelling at him to ensure he still has a healthy fear of humans,” the agency said.

Video of the release shows the elk hesitating in the trailer before calmly stepping off and stopping to look back at the wildlife officers several times.

“Get out of here!” they yell toward him as they bang against the metal trailer. The elk barely budges.

“Remember elk are in rut this time of year and the males can be particularly aggressive and territorial,” the agency said. “Give them a wide berth while they are looking for love.”

The agency shared a photo of the elk standing up in the trailer and looking into the camera, likely still sleepy from the sedative.

“(By the way), wouldn’t this make a great dating profile pic for the bull? Felt cute, might bugle later,” the agency said.

Several people commented saying it was “unusual” to see an elk in town and that he didn’t belong there.

“So glad Handsome was delivered safely back to the woods where he belongs, and not a victim of a traffic accident!” one person said.

One person shared photos of an elk roaming around highways and near neighborhoods, though it was unclear if it was the same animal.

“It’s amazing they can get so far east of the mountains,” someone else said.
