Caldwell student arrested after bringing weapon to school, then fleeing, principal says

Police arrested a Caldwell High School student who brought a weapon to school Thursday morning.

The school went into lockdown Thursday morning after the incident was reported.

Caldwell High School Principal Anita Wilson sent an email to parents at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday saying a student brought a weapon to campus. The student fled campus after being confronted by an administrator and was “immediately arrested by police,” the email shared with the Idaho Statesman said.

The school remained in a hall check as of 10:30 a.m. A hall check is when students stay in their classrooms and continue their studies while interior doors are locked, according to the Boise School District.

“It was resolved quickly and went into hall check,” Cheryl Sanderson, the school’s chief financial officer, told the Statesman by phone. “Everything is fine.”

Wilson praised the “incredibly responsible students who were very brave and reported it to admin” in her email.

“Thanks to the brave students who saw something amiss and reported it,” Wilson said. “Thank you to the Caldwell Police Department for their swift response.”

The school planned to maintain an additional police presence for the rest of Thursday, according to the email.

“We want to return to business as usual today so that students may continue to access their education,” Wilson said.

The Caldwell Police Department declined to comment, advising the Statesman to talk to the school district.
