Rural migration tied to land use and climate change need more attention, scientists say
Climate and other environmental changes sometimes drive people to migrate, especially if the land no longer supports a population's way of life. In turn, mobile populations alter the environment in which they settle. Migration dynamics and their interactions with climate and environment in rural areas are poorly understood, according to...

Broncos RB on roster bubble has another obvious new home for 2024
The Denver Broncos may have to make at least one difficult decision with their running back room, but a recent injury could make this decision much easier. Current Broncos running back Samaje Perine has been someone who may of us have pegged as a roster bubble player all offseason. This is primarily due to Denver taking RB Audric Estime in the 2024 NFL Draft, and also having two other young RBs in Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has received two federal grants totaling $1.7 million to build on the university’s environmental sustainability work on two issues: nitrogen management for sugar beet production, and alley cropping, an agroforestry practice involving the planting of trees or shrubs alongside crops. The funds are part...
Gold rush mines are a 21st century safety hazard. It may take Colorado decades to close them all.
This story originally aired on “Marketplace” on July 30. Mere feet from a prospect pit where miners dug for gold in the second half of the 19th century, bikers whizzed by on the Maryland Mountain trail system west of Denver. “This one is 15-to-16-feet deep with vertical walls....

Deion Sanders, CU Buffs enjoy mid-camp change with open practice at All-City Stadium
Deion Sanders’ No. 1 goal for Friday’s open practice in Denver was accomplished: no injuries. Well, that and not showing much schematically with thousands watching (and probably plenty more from home on social media) with the season opener against North Dakota State less than two weeks away. “This...
Petrified wood building in Colorado made with materials that are 175 million years old
Lamar's Petrified Wood Gas Station was once dubbed the "world's oldest gas station" because of its unusual construction material. In 1932, lumber dealer William T. Brown decided to construct a building completely of Colorado petrified wood. With an estimated age of 175 million years, the ancient gas station became a popular roadside attraction. The building continued to operate as a gas station until Brown passed away in 1957. It was then purchased by Stagner Inc, becoming the "world's oldest car dealership." In 1974, Stagner Inc. moved its main offices to a larger building next door. Today, the building can be found hidden behind used Ford F-350s and serves as an office for the used-car dealership. Strike 3: Jamal Murray’s issues go beyond shaky play in the Olympics
Strike 3: The Paris Olympics weren’t the best for Jamal Murray. Unlike his Denver Nuggets teammate Nikola Jokic, who – if this is even possible – enhanced his brand with a bronze medal finish in these games, Murray was a disappointment. He and his Canadian teammates, poised to earn a medal of their own with a star-studded NBA roster, failed to reach the podium. For his part, Jamal put up paltry numbers coming off the bench: Six points per game on 29% shooting. Just 14% from behind the arc.
Hot weekend, storms begin Sunday
TODAY: Partly to mostly sunny with afternoon highs in the low 90s around Colorado Springs and around 100° from Pueblo to the eastern plains. SUNDAY: Similar temperatures, but high pressure sags south of New Mexico allowing for a flow of moisture to move back into Southern Colorado increasing our chances for afternoon showers and storms. These storms will be isolated yet slow-moving so any storms that form over your area could result in heavy rain over a short period of time.
