Pike Road Girl Awarded In AHFA Statewide Art Contest
Emma Cho, 9, of Pike Road has been named a winner in the Alabama Housing Finance Authority’s third annual National Homeownership Month art contest. Alabama children between the ages of 5 and 12 were invited to show what makes their hometown special. Emma’s colorful and detailed entry earned her the “Staff’s Choice” award for depicting activities that bring the Pike Road community together.

Man jumps from Coosa River Bridge, rescued by firefighters and flown to hospital
TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) - A man was hurt after jumping off a bridge in Talladega County Monday morning. In a media release, the Childersburg Fire and Rescue Department says first responders were called to the Coosa River Bridge on the border of Talladega and Shelby Counties just after 11:30 a.m. Monday. Officials say a man jumped from at least 80 feet above the ground off the middle of the bridge. With the help of people who saw him jump, first responders were able to find the man floating on his back near the middle of the river. They say he was in severe pain, and nearly submerged, when firefighters reached him in the river.
