PREP FOOTBALL: At A Glance: 2024 Local Head Football Coaching Changes
With football season approaching, here’s a look at some of the 2024 local head football coaching changes for the upcoming season. After eight seasons, North Sand Mountain’s Keith Kirby announced in November of last year that he would be leaving his position as head football coach of the Bison. With a 55-37 overall record and a 4-8 postseason record, he exits as the school’s most successful coach ever. He has also won the most playoff games of any coach in campus history.
North Jackson’s Avery Wynne and Scottsboro’s Ethan Roberts Named Recipients of the 2024 Jackson County Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship
In late May, the Board of Directors of the Jackson County Sports Hall of Fame announced the two scholarship recipients of the graduating class of 2024. The female recipient was Avery Wynne of North Jackson High School. Wynne is the first female athlete from NJHS to compete in Division I sports. She is the daughter of Caleb and Carey Wynne, and she will play softball at Middle Tennessee State University.
PREP BASEBALL: Three Scottsboro Baseball Players Named Class 5A All-Area
Scottsboro High School senior pitcher Eli Sparks, senior outfielder Thomas Stewart, and junior catcher Trent Wilson were named to the Class 5A All-Area 14 baseball team. Sparks batted .354 in 10 games during the 2024 season, with five doubles, one home run, and 17 RBIs. Over 45 ⅓ innings, he recorded 36 strikeouts.
