    Monica Abbott , a towering figure in the world of softball , has made a significant impact on the sport both in the United States and internationally. Born and raised in Salinas, California, Abbott's athletic prowess was evident from her high school days at North Salinas High School.

    Abbott's collegiate career at the University of Tennessee was nothing short of remarkable. She set career and single-season NCAA records in her senior year with 189 victories, 2,440 strikeouts, 112 shutouts, 253 appearances, and 1,448.0 innings pitched. Her time at Tennessee also saw her pitch 23 no-hitters and six perfect games. Abbott was the recipient of the 2007 Honda Award as the nation's top collegiate softball athlete and was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year in the same year. She was also a four-time First-Team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American selection and the first softball All-American in Tennessee's history. Abbott was named to the All-Women's College World Series team three times and was a three-time SEC Pitcher of the Year. In 2007, she was a finalist for the ESPY Award for Best Female Collegiate Athlete.

    After her successful college career, Abbott turned professional. She played for the Chicago Bandits from 2011 to 2015 and the Scrap Yard Fast Pitch from 2016 to 2018. Since 2009, she has been a member of the Toyota Red Terries in the Japan Professional Softball League.

    On the international stage, Abbott has represented the United States at the Olympics twice, in 2008 and 2020. Her towering height of 6'3" and her powerful pitching have made her a formidable opponent on the field.
