Tyler, The Creator Apologizes To Eminem & Slams Artists Who 'Mock' Rappers

Tyler, the Creator wants to apologize to Eminem for criticizing one of his albums 15 years ago after he realized it was uncalled for.

The California native described his revelation during his interview with Maverick Carter, which dropped on Wednesday, August 14. During their conversation, Tyler admitted that he initially hated Em's 2010 LP Recovery when he first heard it and went on social media to vent his frustrations. Tyler didn't even think about the album again until he watched the Netflix series "Painkiller," which gave him more perspective on what Em may have gone through during his battle with addiction.

“After watching [Painkiller on Netflix], I felt so bad about those tweets and things like that because thinking from his perspective, someone like me publicly saying that stuff and him getting off drugs and being clean and getting to a point in his life that that’s behind him and me implying that this shit is wack – he probably felt like I was attacking him,” Tyler said. “I thought I was like, ‘I don’t like the music.’ He was in a different part of his life and probably felt like I was attacking him."

“And now I feel so bad about saying that stuff because my perspective was so limited," he continued. "And I love him, that dude taught me how to rap. I learned how to put words together in rhythm because of some of the Eminem stuff I was hearing and story telling and things like that. So after watching that show a few months ago, that gave me perspective and I felt so terrible about some of the things I said about the Recovery album because I realized that was a big step."

Tyler concluded by emphasizing how bad he felt and offered to personally apologize to Eminem. Elsewhere in the interview, Tyler also shared his thoughts about artists who try to sound like other rappers. He mentioned one "Caucasian man" and accused him of "mocking" Future and Gucci Mane with his music. Fans believe he referred to newcomer Ian , who recently dropped an album called Valedictorian featuring an intro from DJ Holiday and trap-like music. The criticism reached Akon's brother and VP of Columbia Records Bu Thiam, who defended Ian after he recently signed him.

"Yo @feliciathegoat, I signed Ian & I'm from Atlanta. He sounds nothing like Gucci or future lol. It's called influence. But I never thought I'd see the day where you become old & hate on the youth lol."
