Dirt track racing legend Scott Bloomquist has reportedly died at the age of 60 following a plane crash near his home in Mooresburg, Tennessee , Friday (August 16) morning, the Rogersville Review 's Jeff Bobo reports.

"Authorities have confirmed that race car driver Scott Bloomquist has been killed in a small aircraft crash near his home in the Mooresburg Community in Hawkins County," Bobo wrote.

Bloomquist was one of the most decorated racers in his sport, having won 600 races including the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series three times, the Dirt Late Model Dream Series eight times and the World 100 four times, as well as having been inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2002. The Iowa native also won the 2004 World of Outlaws Late Model Series and named 2006 RPM Racing News Driver of the Year.

"Just awful news. The word legend gets thrown around a little too often sometimes. But it’s the only way to describe Scott Bloomquist. RIP Bloomer," Couch Racer Shop wrote on its X account in response to Bloomquist's reported death.

Bloomquist battled several serious injuries in recent years including a 2019 motorcycle accident that impaired his leg and hip, as well as being diagnosed with prostate cancer while dealing with back problems in 2023. The legendary driver was reportedly aiming to compete in major series competitions in 2024 prior to his death.

Bloomquist's last career victories came in 2017 and 2018 at the Dirt Late Model Dream event, which he had won a total four times during his career.
