Ashanti Announces The Birth Of Her First Child With Nelly

Ashanti and Nelly have welcomed their first child together into the world.

The "Always On Time" singer confirmed the birth of the couple's new child in a clever Instagram post on Wednesday, August 21. According to People , the couple welcomed their new baby boy Kareem Kenkaide Haynes on July 18. "The proud and happy parents are so in love with KK!" a rep for the couple told the outlet. In her post, Ashanti posted a photo and a video of her body four weeks postpartum.

"Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol," she wrote.

"I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings!" she continued. "This is what postpartum looks like I’m loving these super cozy @fridamom shorts! I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby. 😆"

The two artists, who have been married since December , formally announced they were expecting earlier this year. Fans first suspected they were pregnant during an event in December in which Nelly rubbed his then-fiancee's stomach on stage. At the time, Ashanti didn't even know for sure if she was really pregnant until she took a test for the first time after that memorable moment.

"When he blurted that out on stage, we actually did not know," she explained during an interview with Entertainment Tonight . "I hadn't even taken a test at that time...I was pushing it down and he's like, making it look like something. And I'm like, 'No!'"

The "Baby" crooner confirmed her pregnancy four months later in an interview with Essence . She told Nelly she was pregnant over a FaceTime call while she was at his mother's home.

"He was so happy and we were both smiling and it was so funny," she explained. "I was actually at his mom's house. He was in the studio. It was a really cool moment. It was a little bit of everything."

No baby photos yet, but we're sure they're on the way. Congratulations to the happy couple!
