New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been ruled out for the team's final preseason game against their MetLife Stadium co-tenants, the New York Giants, on Saturday (August 24), head coach Robert Saleh told reporters during the team's final training camp practice on Thursday (August 22).

Saleh said he was always leaning toward waiting for Rodgers, 40, who is coming off a season-ending Achilles injury in 2023, to make his return during the regular season, though the quarterback expressed interest in playing during the preseason. Rodgers sat out only two practices and took about 800 reps with the first team offense during training camp.

“You saw in OTAs with all the 7-on-7 stuff, he was throwing the ball but he was doing it from the pocket,” Saleh said via the New York Post . “He has plenty of mobility.”

Rodgers was acquired by the Jets after last offseason after 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, but limited to just four snaps before suffering the Achilles injury in his Jets debut last September.

Backup Tyrod Taylor , who exchanged words with players on the Giants, his former team, after making a big play during their joint practice will also be inactive for Saturday's game. Andrew Peasley will start at quarterback in the preseason finale while Adrian Martinez will play in relief.
