WATCH: Halsey Teases 'Confessional' Concept Album: 'The Great Impersonator'

Halsey is giving fans a look at their upcoming "confessional" concept album in a trailer for their new project.

On Tuesday (August 27), the "Bad at Love" singer , who was born Ashley Frangipane , shared a trailer on social media for their forthcoming album The Great Impersonator , which they described as a "confessional concept album." In the video, Halsey expressed how they feared the record could have been their last as they struggled with a then-secret battle with multiple illnesses .

"I really thought this album might be the last one I ever made ," the musician said, as the video featured behind-the-scenes footage of them making the album, including shots of the singer recording in a cozy studio.

This thought led Halsey to consider what her life could have been like had she been around in past eras, and the songs on the new album reflect these different styles. Their recent single "Lucky" even showcased the concept, as they channeled Y2K-era pop stardom .

" When you get sick like that , you start thinking about ways it could have all been different," they continued. "What if this isn't how it all went down? 18-year-old Ashely becomes Halsey in 2014, what if I debuted in the early 2000s? The '90s? The '80s? The '70s?"

The trailer itself features Halsey as they would have appeared in each decade, with changing aesthetics complementing the unique vibes of each song.

"Am I still Halsey every time, in every timeline," they asked. "Do I still get sick? Do I become a mom? Am I happy, lonely? Have I done enough? Have I told the truth? I spent half my life being someone else, I never stopped to ask myself, 'If it all ended right now, is this the person you'd be proud to leave behind? Is it even you?'"

An official release date for The Great Impersonator has not been announced, but it's expected to drop sometime later this year.
