Residents Discovered Body In Suitcase Behind New York Apartment Complex

Authorities in New York have launched a homicide investigation after a woman discovered a suitcase with a dead body inside it behind her Long Island apartment complex. A woman named Taylor told News 12 that she was walking through the wooded area behind the building when she smelled a foul odor .

"I was taking a walk, and I just, I smelled something. I saw a whole bunch of flies. I had looked over and I saw the suitcase," she told the news station. "So then I called it in; I was like, I'd rather be safe than sorry. This is out of the ordinary. This is not normal."

The suitcase was partially opened with a foot or shoe sticking out .

Officers arrived and cordoned off the area while they collected evidence. Officials have not identified the body , which was taken by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office to undergo an autopsy to determine how they died.
