Several Fatalities, Multiple People Injured In Georgia High School Shooting

Authorities in Georgia are responding to a reported shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, a small community about an hour north of Atlanta. According to law enforcement sources, four people have died. There are conflicting reports about the number of people who were injured.

A teenage suspect was taken into custody, but no information has been released about their identity or a motive for the shooting.

"Apalachee High School is currently in a hard lockdown after reports of gunfire. Law enforcement is here. Please do not attempt to come to the school at this time while officers work to secure the area," the school said in a message to parents around 10:45 a.m. local time .

According to CNN , multiple ambulances are at the scene , and a medical helicopter was seen transporting at least one victim. A local hospital confirmed to the outlet they have received patients with gunshot wounds from the school. It is unknown if the victims are students.

By 11:30 a.m., the school had been cleared by law enforcement, allowing students to be released to their families. Officials said that parents can pick up their children at school. In addition, buses will be provided for those who need a ride home.
