Good Samaritan Pulls Driver From Truck During Hurricane Francine On Live TV

A driver attempting to go around a barricade during Hurricane Francine found himself in a life-threatening situation as flood waters quickly inundated his truck .

The incident unfolded behind WDSU reporter Jonah Gilmore as he was filming a live shot about flooding in the area. As Gilmore watched the water overtake the truck, he rushed to flag down a police officer to assist.

Luckily, a Good Samaritan was nearby and rushed over to assist. According to the news outlet, Miles Crawford lived nearby and watched the scene unfold on TV. When he realized the driver was in trouble, he grabbed a hammer and rushed outside. He used the hammer to break the window of the pickup truck and then pulled the driver to safety.

"I was just watching on TV, and I saw the cop car there, and I saw him back up, and I saw you with the red jacket. I was just kind of interested in what was going on," Miles told Gilmore.

In an interview with the Associated Press , Gilmore said that his experience as an emergency room nurse compelled him to rush over to help.

“It’s just second nature, I guess, being a nurse, you just go in and get it done, right?” Crawford said. “I just had to get him out of there.”
