The All-American Rejects are back! The pop-punk icons surprised fans on Friday (September 13) with a cover of Harvey Danger 's 1997 classic "Flagpole Sitta." According to a press release, the song came about during late-night bus lounge hangs during the band's 2023 Wet Hot All-American Summer comeback tour.

"We've always felt that if an idea survives a hangover, then it’s probably a good one," AAR said in a statement. "'Flagpole Sitta' was such an idea, born of a late-night, post-show, adrenaline-fueled drive. We recorded it because we wanted to see how it would fall out of us on the floor - either like a hot bag of s***, or a vibe. It was also a good excuse to see if the 4 of us could stand each other for a week in the studio after 7 years of silence. Turns out it was alright.”

The cover is AAR's first release since 2020's "Me vs the World," which was shared in an effort to raise funds for COVID-19 relief. Their last album was 2012's Kids in the Street .

“As for what’s coming next, we will leave that up to the divine feminine,” AAR teased. “If she wants it, she’ll get it."

The Oklahoma natives have been busy playing festivals around the world and plan to wrap up the fall with appearance at US fests Ocean's Calling and When We Were Young. Listen to AAR's cover of "Flagpole Sitta" below.
