The cause of death for Crazy Town frontman Shifty Shellshock has been revealed months after his death at just 49 years old.

According to People , Shellshock, whose real name was Seth Binzer , died as a result of the effects of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine. Though his death was originally listed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as being under investigation, it was ultimately ruled an accidental overdose after being certified on Tuesday (September 24), three months after his death on June 24.

Howie Hubberman, the manager for the band Crazy Town, known for its hit 1999 song "Butterfly," told People shortly after Binzer's death that the late singer-rapper struggled with addiction but "wanted to get himself fixed."

"Seth Binzer, after struggling with addiction and Crazy Town's rapid success with 'Butterfly,' never was able to reach out on a more successful level to deal with his addictions," Hubberman said, adding that the musician died from "a combination of prescription drugs and street purchased drugs."

Hubberman continued, "Shifty was a friend and really wanted to get himself fixed — unfortunately no one had the exact tools to do this, myself included."

The singer battled substance abuse issues throughout his career and was even featured on shows like Celebrity Rehab and Sober House , reality series that followed famous faces battling and working toward overcoming addiction. Binzer was also hospitalized in 2012 after he lost consciousness and fell into a coma before eventually recovering, per Variety . He was arrested that same year on charges of battery and drug possession and was arrested on DUI charges in 2022.
