Former Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams was released by the Tennessee Titans on Thursday (October 17), the same day as his 29th birthday, ESPN 's Adam Schefter reported, citing Adams' agents Kevin Conner and Robert Brown of Uni Sports Management.

Adams was, however, seeking his release, according to Schefter.

"Titans are honoring the request of former Pro-Bowl safety Jamal Adams for his release, per source. Adams is healthy and looking forward to his next opportunity. Adams’ agents Kevin Conner and Robert Brown of @UniSportsMgmt confirmed his release," Schefter wrote.

Adams was selected by the New York Jets at No. 6 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft and quickly emerged as one of the league's best safeties, having been selected as a three-time Pro Bowler (2018-2020), a First-team All-Pro (2019) and a two-time Second-team All-Pro (2018, 2020). The former LSU standout has, however, struggled in recent years, having been released by the Seattle Seahawks this past offseason before a disappointing short stint with the Titans this season.

Adams appeared in three of the Titans' first five games, recording four tackles on 20 snaps and receiving a 49.8 grade on Pro Football Focus . Tennessee is currently third in the AFC South with a 1-4 record.
