In One Direction’s first post on Instagram since 2020, the band said in a statement that they were “ completely devastated ” by “the loss of our brother... We will miss him terribly.” Each band member — Niall Horan , Harry Styles , Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik — shared their own personal tributes in memory of Payne, in addition to Simon Cowell , Ed Sheeran , Halsey and may other artists and fans around the world. Payne’s family said in a statement that “Liam will live forever in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.”
