John Lennon & Yoko Ono's Close Friend Exposes Pair's Unexpected 'Obsession'

John Lennon and Yoko Ono 's extremely close friend, Elliot Mintz , is gearing up to release a new memoir, We All Shine On: John Yoko & Me , that reveals intimate details about one of the couple's most surprising obsessions.

According to People , Mintz met Ono during an interview in the '70s and formed a close bond with her and Lennon that lasted until The Beatles alum's murder in 1980. During their time together, Mintz discovered what the couple was "really like," citing a tendency to obsess over their weight.

"John kept a journal where each day he would write what his weight was. Yoko and John had endless questions about this subject. They thought that everybody in Hollywood was slim and trim and that there were magic diet pills, and insisted I get that for them."

The former TV announcer went on to reveal that their entire closet was organized according to waist size (in addition to being so large that they had to climb a ladder to access certain outfits in boxes on top).

"They kept their various jeans and pantsuits, whatever it might be, in different categories of waist size, 28 [inches] reaching to 32 or so, depending on how they perceived their weight and how tight the pants fit."

Aside from their clothes, Mintz told People that the icons' refrigerator was always filled with "unrecognizable" foods they believed would help them stay slim.

"Their refrigerator was like going into this pit of curiosity. There were sometimes these paper containers, suggesting there were leftovers from the night before, and you would open the container and look in and still not be able to identify what they were eating."
