A Texas man was arrested for allegedly punching a poll worker at an early voting site on Thursday (October 24) evening. According to a report from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the man, identified as 63-year-old Jesse Lutzenberger , was asked to remove his red "Make America Great Again" hat by a poll worker.

The poll worker explained that it is against Texas electioneering laws to wear apparel promoting a candidate running for office at polling sites, and Lutzenberger complied with his request.

After he finished voting, Lutzenberger put his hat back on while he was still inside the building. The clerk approached Lutzenberger and started to escort him out of the building.

As the two neared the doors, a scuffle broke out, and Lutzenberger attacked the clerk, punching him several times .

"The victim seemed to push off of the suspect. At that point, the suspect then turned and threw several punches right at the face of the victim," Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said.

The 69-year-old poll worker was not seriously injured in the attack.

Lutzenberger was taken into custody and booked into jail on a charge of injury to an elderly person, a third-degree felony. He was released after posting $30,000 bail.
