Colorado company uses plastic from Dillon Marina and turns it into roads
While a pile of polyethylene plastic wrap piled up in a storage shed for the Dillon Marina (from boats wrapped up in the off-season) Craig Simson, the "Mayor" of the Dillon Marina started looking for a place to put it. Previously the supplier would take the plastic back and recycle it, but it became too costly, and the supplier simply stopped offering the service. "We were on a mission to find someone to process this kind of plastic," Simson said. "Between the two marinas, (Dillon and Frisco) the rough math is we produce about 480,000 square feet of plastic annually. That didn't...

Mixed reactions to plan for Colorado's Sweetwater Lake
As a public comment period draws to a close regarding a plan for a scenic lake in western Colorado, land managers continue to face strong opposition. That opposition — largely from people living nearby — quickly followed Gov. Jared Polis announcing Sweetwater Lake as Colorado's next state park in 2021. The announcement came after the lake and land long held in private hands entered the U.S. Forest Service's trust thanks to a grassroots fundraising effort and federal money ensuring a future of preservation.

Author visits The Bookworm of Edwards to talk about living off-grid in Colorado
As housing and renting costs rise, people are getting more and more creative, and there seems to be a draw for many to rural areas. One such area is the San Luis Valley of southeastern Colorado, where after subdivision projects failed, 5 acre plots in the high desert can be purchased for relatively cheap. In May 2017, author Ted Conover bought one of those five acre plots to see what off-grid life looked like firsthand, and lived off that land over the course of four years. Conover wrote a book about his experiences and will be at The Bookworm of Edwards to share.
