ComEd says 3,000 workers out restoring power

At least 3,000 utility workers were out Tuesday, helping ComEd restore power to hundreds of thousands of customers in the dark after Monday night’s massive storms. At the height of the outage, officials said 430,000 customers were in the dark, with each customer potentially a household or business. Ameren Illinois said that it projects about 80% of customers impacted by Monday storms will be restored by 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Some of the challenges crews were tackling include transmission towers that came down in the high winds along I-55 near Channahon, which shutdown the highway.

Heavy rains cause dam breach in southern Illinois

Thunderstorms with heavy rains caused the overtopping of a dam Tuesday in southern Illinois. Water overtopped a dam near Nashville, Illinois, sending first responders to the flooded area to make sure everyone got out safely. Earlier, the Washington County Emergency Management Agency advised residents south of the Nashville City Reservoir, located outside St. Louis, Missouri, to evacuate their homes immediately.

Feds make $140 million in quantum computing in Illinois

Gov. J.B. Pritzker joined federal and state officials to reveal a federal investment in Illinois. A $140 million investment will assist the state in quantum computing research. The funds will go directly into a new research center in collaboration with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, also known as DARPA.
