Another Strike Team Deploys
No sooner does one Imperial County Strike Team return to the Valley when another one is deployed. A Strike Team sent to the Thompson Fire in Butte County last week returned over the weekend. Tuesday, another Strike Team of firefighters was on its way to the Lake Fire in Santa Barbera County. The El Centro Fire Department is responding with a 4X4 off-road capable vehicle owned by the California Office of Emergency Services and assigned to the El Centro Department. Also responding are similar vehicles from the Holtville, Calipatria and Brawley Fire Departments. Brawley Fire is also sending a water tender. The equipment and personnel are assigned to the Lake Fire in Santa Barbera County. The fire was reported on July 5 and has burned over 26,000 acres. It was considered 12 percent contained Tuesday afternoon.

The Next Election Is The General Election
(The County Registrar of Voters says the General Election will be held November fifth. That election is a big one. Not only will the ballot contain the Presidential Election, and several State and Federal issues, there will be several local issues. There will be several special Districts, including schools and other districts, there will also be City Council races and other City issues from Brawley, Calexico, Calipatria El Centro, Holtville, Imperial, and Westmorland. Starting July 15, Declarations of Candidacy for eligible persons desiring to file for elective offices will be available at the Registrar of Voters Office Declarations of Candidacy must be filed with the Registrar of Voters by 5 pm August 9. Appointments are required for filing candidate documents. City Candidates must file with the City Clerk in their individual cities.
