Arson Suspect Arrested
A suspect has been arrested following a large haystack fire. Imperial County Fire Department responded to the haystack fire in the area of McCabe and Pitzer Roads near Heber shortly after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday. Imperial County Sheriff's deputies also responded to the scene and were able to locate a man hiding in a canal near the fire. The man, Antonio Jesus Sandoval, 32, from Calexico. The Sheriff's Agriculture Crimes Investigators was able to link Sandoval to the blaze. Sandoval was arrested and booked into Imperial County Jail for charges of Arson and Providing False Identification to a Peace officer. It was learned that Sandoval was on probation for Reckless Burning. He is being held on $60,000 bail. The case has been forwarded to the Imperial County District Attorney's Office for prosecution. The Sheriff's Office is asking that anyone who might have any information as to Sandoval being involved in additional fires contact them.
