“For me, it is heartbreaking because I do, from time to time, think about what could have been, and it makes me sad,” Gypsy, 33, said about Dee not getting to meet the baby during the Wednesday, October 16, episode of Nick Viall’s “The Viall Files” podcast. “So, I kind of put that in the back of my mind.”
Gypsy added that she has seen “questions on social media” regarding how she’s “gonna tell [her] daughter” why her grandmother isn’t around. “My response to them is that [stepmom]Kristy [Blanchard] has become more of a mother to me than my own mother was,” she said.
The Lifetime star added that “Kristy is going to be grandma” to her and boyfriend Ken Urker’s child.
The Louisiana native earned national attention when she and then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, were found guilty of killing Dee Dee in 2015 after she experienced years of abuse at the hands of her mother. Gypsy had an early release from prison in December 2023, and Nicholas, 35, is currently serving a life sentence without parole for first-degree murder.
It’s believed that Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy. The psychological disorder is “marked by attention-seeking behavior by a caregiver through those who are in their care,” according to WebMD. “The person with MSP gains attention by seeking medical help for exaggerated or made-up symptoms of a child in their care.”
Since returning to society following her time in prison, Gypsy has embraced her new life of freedom and revealed her pregnancy in July.
During the podcast appearance, she reflected on the “negative comments” she’s received online about becoming a mother.
“The one thing that just irritates me is the fact that people really have this stigma on, you know, new parents that have come from a life of trauma and the stigma of, oh, you know, ‘You had been through this, so you’re gonna continue on that cycle with your child,’” she admitted.
She then said that the criticism was “unfair” because she’s “taking the steps to make sure that [she’s] mentally stable enough to be a parent and heal” herself. “And so going forward, you know, I might not be a perfect parent, nobody is,” Gypsy continued. “But I am gonna do the best I can and make educated choices with my child and have the support to do so.”

In addition to being open about her pregnancy, Gypsy has also been candid about her regrets when it comes to killing her mother. “She was a sick woman and unfortunately I wasn’t educated enough to see that,” Gypsy told People just days before her prison release in December 2023. “She deserved to be where I am, sitting in prison doing time for criminal behavior.”
Gypsy said that “nobody will ever hear” her say she’s “glad” Dee Dee is dead, adding that she regrets the murder “every single day.”
