Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, revealed why she left Argentina just two days before his death in Buenos Aires.

Kate, 25, took to TikTok on Monday, October 14, to explain that she was heading back to her home state of Florida and said she “was so ready to leave” Argentina after spending two weeks there with Liam.

The influencer – who left the former boyband member in the South American country – explained that she and Liam were originally only planning to stay in Argentina for “five days.” She then said that she was excited to get home and sleep in her own bed.

“I was just like, I need to go home,” Kate said in the video, which showed her flight experience as she headed home. “Soooo happpii to b back in sunshine state,” she captioned the clip.

While Kate explained she fled Argentina because she missed her home, she didn’t reveal why Liam chose to stay in Buenos Aires after she left.

The couple – who began dating in 2022 – traveled to Argentina earlier in this month to attend former One Direction member Niall Horan’s concert on October 4. They documented their trip in several social media posts, and Liam was active on social media in the hours leading up to his death.

The “What Make You Beautiful” singer died after he fell from the third floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, October 16, In Touch confirmed at the time. A hotel staff member called 911 to report the musician’s erratic behavior. However, Liam was already dead by the time police arrived at the scene.

“There was no possibility of resuscitating him,” the authorities said in a statement about the “Steal My Girl” singer. “He had extremely severe injuries that were incompatible with life due to the fall.”

The Buenos Aires emergency services chief, Alberto Crescenti, confirmed that Liam died from “very serious injuries” he suffered from the fall. “Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death,” Crescenti explained, according to The Sun.

The 911 call recording, which was obtained via local media by Telemundo, featured a hotel employee alleging that Liam – who they did not directly name – had “drugs and alcohol” in his system at the time of his death. The staff member claimed that he “overindulged” in the substances and detailed his concerning behavior. “When he is conscious he breaks, he is breaking the whole room. Well, we need you to send someone, please,” they added.

Liam and Kate appeared to be going strong ahead of his death, and he posted videos of their time together in Argentina shortly before his passing.

The couple previously sparked split rumors in May 2023 when fans noticed Liam and Kate had not been seen together in prior months. The pair eventually shut down the break up speculation in June 2023 when they were spotted holding hands following an event they attended together at Chiltern Firehouse.
