Erik Menendez and his brother Lyle Menendez may be getting closer to being released from prison, but they are stuck eating prison food for the foreseeable future.

In Touch obtained the September and October menus for inmates locked up at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California.

Erik, 53, and Lyle, 56, are both serving their respective life sentences at the facility. The brothers were convicted in 1996 of first-degree murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez.

Erik has been at the prison since 2013. Lyle joined his brother at the facility in 2018.

According to the prison menu for September 30 to October 6, the brothers had quite the range of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The breakfast main course options include cold cereal, fried eggs, breakfast links, biscuit with a beef flavored gravy and chicken breakfast patty.

On Sunday, Erik and Lyle got to enjoy a pancake breakfast. The breakfast sides include diced country potatoes, fresh fruit, hash browns, wheat bread and pinto beans.

Erik and Lyle’s lunch options include peanut butter sandwiches, roasted chicken and lunchmeat sandwiches.

The dinner selections for the inmates are cheese pizza, salads, beef patties, chicken breast, chili, and fish. The side options include green peppers, apples, mashes potatoes, pudding, cornbread, potato wedges or a fresh baked potato.

On the weekend, Erik and Lyle were given a lemon cake treat with their dinner.

As In Touch previously reported, Jose and Kitty were fatally shot in their Beverly Hills mansion on August 20, 1989. In court, Erik and Lyle claimed they killed their parents out of fear for their safety. They claimed their father had sexually abused them.

Prosecutors accused the brothers of murdering their parents for their money.

In 2023, a former child singer Roy Rosselló, from the boy band Menudo, accused Erik and Lyle’s father of sexual assault when he was a teen. Erik spoke out about Roy’s claim.

“My dad was one of the guys that was choosing and selecting the new members of the group. I remember specifically taking one of the kids and going off and saying he wanted to talk to him alone and they went off into the house upstairs.”

“Frankly, to be honest, I feel horrible. It’s sad to know there was another victim of my father,” Erik said. “I always hoped and believed that one day the truth about my dad would come out, but I never wished for it to come out like this — the result of trauma another child has suffered. It makes me very sad.”

The brothers used Roy’s accusations in a new petition they filed seeking to have their convictions overturned.

They also included a newly discovered letter that Erik wrote to his cousin talking about Jose’s alleged abuse.

This week, Erik and Lyle’s relatives appeared at a Los Angeles courthouse to plea for their release. Los Angeles County district attorney is currently looking over the case and to decide if the brothers should be resentenced.

Over two dozen family members are supporting Lyle and Erik’s petition seeking for their convictions to be overturned.
