Liam Payne’s sister, Ruth Gibbins, broke her silence on his tragic death in a heartbreaking letter to him.

“My brain is struggling to catch up with what’s happening and I don’t understand where you’ve gone. I just want to drive to your house and walk in to music blasting and find you sat there writing a song or walk in to your art phases and sit with you whilst you draw or craft,” Ruth, 33, began in the tribute shared via Instagram on Saturday, October 19.

Ruth listed some of her favorite things about Liam, including his “ability to make [her] laugh,” his “kindness” and how he made a “great Sunday dinner.”

She continued, “I don’t feel this world was good enough or kind enough to you, and quite often over the last few years, you’ve had to really try hard to overcome all that was being aimed at you. You just wanted to be loved and to make people happy with your music. You never believed you were good enough, I hope you can now see this outpouring of love that you never received in your time.”

Ruth also thanked the former One Direction star for “changing [her] life” and for the “incredible memories” before writing that Liam was the “the best brother and friend” she had “ever had.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t save you. Love you, oh how my heart misses you, Ru xXx. One last time I need you to know, l’m here if you need anything, I’d drive to the end of the universe to bring you back,” Ruth concluded.

The “Steal My Girl” artist fell to his death at the age of 31 on Wednesday, October 16. Authorities stated that the “serious injuries” Liam sustained in the fall from the third-story balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, were “incompatible with life.”

“According to the emergency medical team sent to the scene, [Liam] had a fracture in the base of his skull [and] extremely serious injuries,” Buenos Aires emergency services chief Alberto Crescenti confirmed. The skull fracture resulted in his immediate death.

At first, it wasn’t clear whether Liam’s fall was intentional or accidental. However the communications director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, Pablo Policicchio, confirmed on Thursday, October 17, that the “What Makes You Beautiful” singer “jumped from the balcony of his room.”

Liam and his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had traveled to South America to see his friend and fellow former One Direction member Niall Horan perform on October 4. Kate, 25, decided to leave Argentina early while Liam chose to stay behind.

“Honestly loved South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long, and we were supposed to be there for like five days. It turned into two weeks, and I was just like, ‘I need to go home,’” Kate said in a TikTok video posted on Monday, October 14.

Two days after the news broke of Liam’s death, Kate shared a message thanking people for their support.

“Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way,” the social media personality wrote via her Instagram Stories on Friday, October 18. “I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.”

She followed the message with a heartfelt message to the “Story of My Life” artist.

“Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
