Kansas man arrested for having meth, invalid driver's license

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. — Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) arrested Codaniel Jones of Independence, Kansas, after deputies found meth and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on Wednesday morning.

A little before 10 a.m., deputies pulled over a van at the intersection of 10th and Oak Street in Independence after determining that the driver, Jones, didn't have a valid driver's license.

Police Service Dog Sancho performed a free air sniff around the outside of the van and alerted deputies to illegal drugs inside.

During a search of the van, deputies found meth and drug paraphernalia, which led to Jones getting arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections.

During a search of Jones, deputies found brass knuckles.

Jones was booked on charges of driving with a suspended license, possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal carrying of a weapon.

"Good job to the deputies for continuing to be proactive and fighting the war against illegal narcotics. Today they were able to get some dangerous narcotics off the streets as well as potentially dangerous weapons. Because of our proactive deputies in fighting narcotic crimes, burglary, and thefts, we have been able to lower the crime rate in the County. That is a huge accomplishment, and I am thankful for each one of my deputies and their dedication to the Sheriff's Office and the citizens here in Montgomery County," said Montgomery County Sheriff Ron Wade.

The case will be forwarded to the Montgomery County Attorney's Office for proper charging, according to MCSO.
