Arts Council announces upcoming classes
OLEAN — The Tri-County Arts Council announces a new slate of upcoming classes to welcome summer. Gathering Basket at Pfeiffer Nature Center — June 23 with Nicole Fair from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; cost: $35 artisan members and above, $45 basic/family members and non-members, supplies fee $35; host: Pfeiffer Nature Center, 1974 Lillibridge Road, Portville; ages 12 and up. Join Us for a fun-filled day of basketweaving outdoors at the Pfeiffer Nature Center for the Gathering Basket. You will learn basic weaving techniques using a variety of reeds and colors with a rectangular wooden base with attached spokes. You will attach a handle to your basket as well. This Basket is perfect for gathering from your garden, but also has dozens of uses in your home. Suitable for beginners and experienced weavers.

STATE POLICE AT COUDERSPORT
Kyle J. Podjed, 35, of Lebanon, was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash on Kinney Road, Genesee Township, June 1. Podjed was traveling east on a 2015 Beta 300 CC motorcycle when a bear entered the roadway into his path. Podjed was thrown from the bike in the collision and transported via medical helicopter to Erie County Medical Center. Police were assisted on scene by Genesee volunteer fire department and Genessee EMS.
Penn State Extension to offer 4-H Discovery Camp
All Potter and McKean County youth ages 5-12 are invited to attend 4-H Discovery Camp on July 9-11 at the Potter County Fairgrounds, Shinglehouse. Discovery Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be three full days of hands-on workshops, games, and more led by 4-H volunteers, community partners and senior counselors in a variety of program areas.

This morning village crews were repairing a water line near the famous Texas Hot when an unexpected main line break created a “geyser” of sorts on Main Street. Public Works Director Dean Arnold explained that the main line had about one hundred pounds of pressure behind it.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Swimming will open for the season on Monday at Durand Eastman Beach and the pool at the Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex. The city made the announcement a day after the county opened Ontario Beach Park for swimming. Durand Eastman Beach will be open for swimming, with lifeguards on duty, from noon to 6 p.m. for seven days a week.

Sad news: Body of 15 year old missing in Genesee River in Caneadea recovered after extensive search
A 15-year-old Belfast teen was recovered from the Genesee River on Friday around 11:30 a.m. after he drown on Thursday night. Amity-based State Police said the teen was reported missing at 8 p.m. when two teens went swimming in the Genesee River near State Route 19 and Oramel Hill Road in the town of Caneadea.

New York State Police said the body of a 15-year-old male was recovered Friday from the Genesee River after the teen went under the water and did not resurface while swimming Thursday night.
