Village of Cuba Will Have Roiled Water July 18
CUBA, NY — Work on the village’s water improvement project will result in roiled water on Thursday, according to Facebook post from the Village of Cuba. George A. Bowen, Jr.
Galeton, Pa. — George A. Bowen, Jr., 85, of Galeton, Pa. died Tuesday, July 16, 2024 in his home. Born Sept. 30, 1938 in Blossburg, he was the son of George A. and Hilma M. Hakes Bowen. The family resided in Wellsboro and Spring City, and in 1945 moved to Galeton, where his parents established the Bow Inn. The Bow Inn started out selling gasoline and a snack bar, like the modern mini mart, eventually adding a motel, which they operated for many years.

GENESEE TWP., Mich. (WNEM) - A Vietnam veteran and his dog died in a house fire early Thursday morning in Genesee Township. Fire crews were called to the 1000 block of Clovis Avenue for a report of a structure fire with entrapment shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 18.
First Food Fun Friday held in Coudersport
COUDERSPORT — Music and sirens filled the courtyard square here on July 12 as the Chamber of Commerce held its first Food Fun Friday. “We decided to try and bring some life to the community. With the reorganized new board, we are reinventing ourselves and want people to come out and enjoy being a part of Coudersport,” said Shelley Butler, who is on the committee that developed the event for the Chamber.

When you consider the backdrop of the Genesee River, often foggy at sunrise and glowing at sunset, Wellsville is the perfect place for a balloon rally.
US Army Corps of Engineers to update master plan for Almond Lake and the Arkport Dam
Land Classification changes could have big impact, public comment period open until August 14. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District (USACE- Baltimore) is in the process of updating the Master Plans for the USACE owned and operated Almond Lake and Arkport Dam. The purpose of the Almond Lake 2024 Master Plan and the Arkport Dam 2024 Master Plan is to provide guidance for stewardship of natural resources and management for long-term public access to, and use of, the natural resources at Almond Lake and Arkport Dam, including the land classification of the USACE-managed lands. Land classifications are established in the 2024 Master Plans and are fundamental to project land management. Land classifications provide for development and resource management consistent with authorized purposes and other federal laws. The 2024 Master Plans provide a comprehensive description of the USACE project, a discussion of factors influencing resource management and development, new resource management objectives, a synopsis of public involvement and input into the planning process, descriptions of existing development, and considerations of future development activities.

The Hornell Steamers increased their winning streak to twelve games with a hard fought 8-5 victory over the Genesee Rapids on Tuesday night. Hornell now is 25-7-1 on the year and holds a five point lead over the Rapids for the top spot in the Western Division.
Wellsville planning board pauses ACCORD housing project on Coats Street. What's next.
The development of a new six-unit townhome that generated strong turnout at a public hearing is awaiting signoff from the Wellsville village planning board. The planning board revealed it is not yet ready to make a recommendation on the project during its July meeting last week. The board conducted a well-attended public hearing May 30 to solicit community feedback on the proposal, which would construct a two-story housing project on Coats Street next to ACCORD’s Head Start Center, just off Route 19.

Trooper pulls child from pond
Ulysses, Pa. — State police pulled a mentally-handicapped child from a pond after reports the child was walking unsupervised along the roadway. Trp. Benjamin Sterling of state police at Coudersport was called to the 4400 block of Loucks Mills Road after a witness reported seeing a nude mentally-handicapped child walking in the roadway on July 5 around 8 a.m. By the time Sterling arrived, the child had wandered into a pond and was beginning to submerge, he said. After going into the water and pulling the child out, the child was returned to family members. Police did not say if anyone is being charged for the incident, which they reported as child endangerment.
