Jones Memorial Hospital birthing center receives donation from local church
WELLSVILLE — The Dr. F. Clifton Miller Birthing Center at Jones Memorial Hospital received a donation of nearly $1,200 from the Andover First Baptist Church. Church members competed in teams — "girls vs. boys" — to collect change May 12 through June 16 for the initiative. In just over a month, the boys raised $603.45, while the girls raised $585.65, thanks to a last-minute donation.

HORNELL — The Salamanca Lizards’ negative trend continued on July 13 as they fell to the Hornell Steamers for their eighth loss in their last nine games. Accident lie leads to charges for Wellsboro man
Galeton, Pa. — A Wellsboro man got into legal trouble after he tried blaming a group of teens for a crash, police say. Elkland abruptly adjourns meeting
Elkland Borough Council failed to handle agenda business at the July 11 meeting after the agenda was rearranged without comment. After calling the meeting to order, council President Wendy Sherman Graham called an executive session for personnel and legal matters, originally scheduled for later in the meeting. Two New Provisional Fire Fighters For Hornell
The Board of Public Safety unanimously approved appointments for Austin Wheatcraft and Justin Morse as provisional firefighter trainees at their July meeting. Austin Wheatcraft, a 2022 graduate of Haverling Central School, has an extensive firefighting background. Chief Frank Brzozowski detailed, “Austin has worked his way up the ranks and has shown dedication to firefighting and public safety throughout his life. Starting as a junior firefighter, and working his way to senior volunteer firefighter for the Bath Volunteer Fire Department, Austin has shown he is highly motivated and dedicated. His hard-working nature was highlighted during the interview, and last year, he was recognized as responding to the most calls as a volunteer. Our department has a high call volume, and we have great expectations and believe Austin will do well for our department.”

The Hornell Steamers defeated the Dansville Gliders 6-3 in a rainy Sunday afternoon contest at Babcock Park. Hornell has won ten straight and are now 23-7-1 on the year.
