When Huntington Bank announced last fall it planned to close its Buckeye Road branch, local residents and activists rallied around the shuttering as unnecessary and yet another blow to a community trying to make a comeback. Their efforts – and Huntington’s willingness to hear them out – produced at least a temporary reversal. In January, Huntington withdrew an application with bank regulators to permanently close the branch. In return, Huntington asked that city leaders and residents help come up with a plan to help reduce crime in the area. The bank, the residents and the city continue to meet regularly on the topic.
Time running out to buy time at Cleveland State
The clock’s ticking at Cleveland State University. July 31 is the last work day for an unknown number of staff members who took a buyout deal offered by the cash-strapped university. A day later, full-time faculty members must indicate if they, too, want to take the voluntary buyout. It’s all unfolding just before the fall semester begins Aug. 26.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cuyahoga residents who have not yet received a letter about changes in their property value should contact the county for a copy. The county has been mailing out the new appraisal letters over the last two weeks, showing home values increasing an average 32%. Residents were being instructed to use the new and old valuation figures to estimate changes to their property tax bills next year.
