    Who is Vivek Mohan?

Vivek Mohan is a first-generation immigrant who came to the Bay Area more than 35 years ago and has lived in Pleasanton for 12 years. He has a Bachelor of Arts from India, a B.Sc. in Comp Sc. from Cal State University – East Bay, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Mohan’s professional background includes founding small businesses and holding a senior executive role in a global organization. He is also active in the local community, has served on Pleasanton’s Planning and Housing Commissions, and advises a non-profit organization.

“I don’t think citizens should be treated like ATM machines for our city or state to withdraw money to cover their own ineptness,” Mohan said in an email interview with India Currents.

If elected, his top priorities will be…

In the short term, Mohan’s priority is to fix the current challenges and in the medium term, to have a plan that involves getting more revenues and local employment in the city without having to raise taxes.

    His priorities include:

    Short term

    1) Fix budget shortfall problem: will do so by cutting fat, not by raising taxes or pricing. Our money shortfall is at the root of some of our issues like safety (hiring more officers), and water (spending on treatment plants etc, aging infra).

    2) Affordable, PFAS-free water

    3) Drive more business-friendly City Hall policies

    4) Proactive, transparent communication channels with the broad community.

    Mid to long-term

    1) A strategic plan to be built so current issues don’t repeat.

    2) Develop local businesses

    3) Pleasanton as a hub for green tech and healthcare startups and companies.

What major challenges does Pleasanton face ?

Mohan added that to take care of the Pleasonaton’s current and future challenges, there is a need for a government that spends wisely.

“Because like a household, if we don’t know how to spend wisely, no amount of money in the world is enough,” he said.

He urged everyone to research candidates’ positions and be intentional about who they vote for to get the desired outcomes.

“Change won’t happen unless we vote for change,” he said.
