More than 70 percent of Denverites fear they can’t afford to stay in Colorado. As for their kids? Nine in ten parents think their children won’t be able to afford life in the state.
Hazy and warm weather in Denver to kick off the week
DENVER — We saw a nice break from the heat this weekend, but warmer and drier weather will return this week. Skies are hazy Monday morning and we’re under an air quality alert until at least 4 p.m. Smoke from Canadian wildfires will filter in along the Front Range.

A pretty good looking Monday ahead for us. We will see temps a bit below normal and only a slight chance for thunderstorms but with some smoke above. Sunny skies will be the rule for most of the day. It will, however, be hazy as smoke from wildfires in Canada and Pacific Northwest arrive. This afternoon we have just the slightest chance for a thunderstorm. Highs will top out in the mid-80s.

Man and officer injured in shootout in Fort Collins
FORT COLLINS, Colo — A Fort Collins Police officer and another person were injured in an exchange of gunfire at a cemetery Sunday, the police department said. Police said around 12:40 p.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle rollover at the intersection of Bryan Avenue and Mountain Avenue, near City Park. Police said "the driver exited the vehicle with a firearm and exchanged gunfire with officers, then ran toward Grandview Cemetery."

Resident fatally shoots home intruder near University of Denver
A startled resident shot and killed a man who was intruding in their apartment early Sunday morning, according to the Denver Police Department. The shooting happened near the 2300 block of east Evans Avenue in south Denver, at the One Observatory Park apartment complex near the University of Denver. An initial call of a shooting came in around 1 a.m., according to a police department spokesperson. Police officials said a "surprised" resident shot the intruder inside their home. The man who intruded on the home was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Police officials added the resident who shot the man is cooperating during the active investigation.
