    Spots still left in Indian River Kayak-Bike Biathlon

    INDIAN RIVER — There are still some spots left for those interested in entering the 17th annual Indian River Kayak-Bike Biathlon.

    The biathlon is set to take place on Sunday, July 21. As of July 3, there were 14 spots left. The event is limited to the first 100 registered participants.

    The event, which is a fundraiser for the Top of Michigan Trails Council, takes place at DeVoe Public Beach on Burt Lake in Indian River. The course begins with 2.24 miles of kayaking and ends with 11.68 miles of cycling on the North Central State Trail.

    Check-in begins at 8 a.m. at DeVoe Public Beach, with a 9 a.m. start for the kayaking section. The awards ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Wood plaques are awarded to the top finishers in each age/gender category.

    Participants must provide their own bicycle and proper helmet and kayak with paddle, and Coast Guard approved life-jacket.
