Standing in the middle of Mecklenburg County’s Material Recovery Facility, off West Craighead Road in northeast Charlotte, is like being in a version of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory that processes anything but chocolate. The 100,000-square-foot warehouse contains an intricate array of loud, buzzing machinery and whirring conveyor belts filled with foul-smelling garbage, all rising to the ceiling alongside metal staircases and walkways that appear to lead nowhere.

Charlotte's LUESA Office Goes Remote for Tuesday Maintenance, In-Person Services to Resume Wednesday
Due to a scheduled maintenance on the water main, the Mecklenburg County's Land Use and Environmental Services Agency (LUESA) office will be temporarily shifting gears to remote work this Tuesday, July 23, 2024. According to an announcement made on the county's official news site, the LUESA office at 2145 Suttle Avenue, Charlotte, NC will not be available for in-person services on that day. The Mecklenburg County website provided says, "Online and remote LUESA staff will continue to work." Repairs are expected to wrap up within the day, aiming for regular operations to resume by Wednesday.

Man injured when tree falls, homes damaged in Raleigh and Garner during storms
Rain poured in a Garner family's home on Monday just a few days after a tree fell on their roof over the weekend. Crews spent hours on Monday removing a poplar tree from the roof of a townhouse near North Hills. Across the Triangle, crews were cleaning up other damage after storms with strong winds and rain knocked down trees across the Triangle over the weekend and on Monday.
