Indiana Fever Make Big Injury Announcement Before Game Against Liberty

The Indiana Fever will face the New York Liberty on Saturday, which will be the fourth and final meeting between these two teams this season. New York has won all three games against Indiana this season, and will look to complete the season series sweep on Saturday.

While Indiana enters this game in better form than they had in any of their previous meetings with New York, they may again be without center Temi Fagbenle. The team announced on Friday that Fagbenle is back on the injury report with a right thumb injury, and is questionable to play in Saturday's game.

Fagbenle has already missed 10 games this season with different injuries, which has really disrupted Indiana's rotation. In the 11 games she has played, Fagbenle has been relied upon for a career-high 21.6 minutes per game, and has made a strong impact in those minutes.

Averaging 8.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game this season, Fagbenle has worked particularly well with Caitlin Clark, which she spoke about earlier in the season:

This connection between Clark and Fagbenle was becoming so strong, that Fever head coach Christie Sides even moved Fagbenle into the starting lineup for two games before her extended injury absence.

Having started just two games her whole career prior to this season, Fagbenle was very impressive in this increased role, averaging 9.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game in her two starts this season.

Up against a Liberty team that has given them a lot of trouble this season, Indiana will certainly need all hands on deck on order to avoid a season series sweep. Losing Fagbenle for this game would be a tough blow for the Fever, but they have spent nearly half the season without the talented center, so the team knows how to adjust.

Indiana and New York will tip-off at 1:00 PM ET on Saturday afternoon.
