Journeyman Distillery recently took home six ASCOT medals at an international spirits competition.

The ASCOT awards are presented annually by the American Spirits Council of Tasters. This year, over 50 judges blind tasted over 1,200 entries in multiple categories.

Journeyman Distillery’s honors included a gold medal, three platinum medals and two double platinum medals for its rye heavy bourbon and cask strength malted rye. It has locations in Michigan and Indiana.

In 2023, Journeyman Distillery won “Craft Distiller of the Year” and “Whiskey of the Year.”

The American Spirits Council of Tasters was founded by Fred Minnick. Spirits judges participate in a blind-tasting experience for three weeks. Scores from judges are tallied to determine winners for the double platinum, platinum, gold and honorable mention categories. The international spirits competition recognizes selections from across the globe.

Journeyman Distillery was founded in 2010 by husband-and-wife Bill and Johanna Welter. The distillery’s production hub is in Three Oaks, Michigan. In October 2023, Journeyman Distillery opened The American Factory, a distillery and brewery in Valparaiso, Bill Welter’s hometown. Journeyman’s nonprofit Islay’s Barrel Foundation raises funds to send children to local summer camps.
