Ignite the Region luncheon to feature Sen. Young

U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) will speak during the Ignite the Region luncheon Aug. 20.

Young will discuss tech sector advancements nationwide, the CHIPS & Science Act, and Northwest Indiana's efforts to take advantage of U.S. technology and infrastructure investments, according to Morgan Bruns, marketing and events coordinator at the Northwest Indiana Forum.

“We are honored to have Sen. Young join us for this event,” said Heather Ennis, president and CEO at the Forum. “His experience in driving change through technological advancement in our country and his dedication to representing the state of Indiana in the U.S. Senate will provide valuable perspectives as we continue to work towards a thriving and united Region.”

The annual event will also celebrate the $95 million commitment in READI grants in the Region and the latest updates on the Ignite the Region initiative, which was launched in 2017.

The Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative is a state initiative that promotes regional development. The program invests in projects that foster innovation, create jobs and enhance quality of life.

The Northwest Indiana Forum was awarded $45 million in funding from the READI 2.0 program and $50 million in funding from READI 1.0 .

Last year, Gov. Eric Holcomb was the featured speaker. He surprised Heather Ennis, the Northwest Indiana Forum's president and CEO, with a Sagamore of the Wabash Award .

The Sagamore of the Wabash is one of the highest distinctions in the state of Indiana, reserved for those who have made significant and lasting impacts on the state and its communities.

The Ignite the Region luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Avalon Manor, 3550 E. Lincoln Highway, Merrillville. Tickets are $45 to $65.
