Study: Indiana’s Working Hours Decreased While Productivity Increased in 2022-23

STATEWIDE –A recent study showed that as people in Indiana worked less hours, their productivity increased.

The study, conducted by A.I. productivity platform Plus Docs, analyzed the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on the change in hours worked and the change in labor productivity nationwide in 2022-23.

The results showed that Indiana’s working hours dropped by 1.2% and labor productivity increased by 3.6%.

“The states with the lowest working hours often emerge as the most productive due to several key factors: they prioritize efficiency, they implement advanced technologies, and they place an emphasis on employee well-being and work life balance. In doing so, they maximize output without extending work hours and they ensure their employess are well-rested and highly motivated, leading to greater overall productivity. Progressive labor policies and innovative workplace practices in these states contribute to an environment where productivity is driven by the quality of work rather than the quantity of hours spent working. This holistic approach not only boosts productivity but also enhances employee satisfaction and well-being,” said Daniel Li, CEO and cofounder of Plus Docs.

The data is from the private non-farm sector.

On a national level, hours worked increased by 1.7% and labor productivity went up by 1%. For example, Alaska’s productivity dropped by 0.7%, but their labor productivity went up 7.8%.
