STATEWIDE — Destiny Wells is the official Democrat nominee for Indiana attorney general, and she has a three-step plan to change the conduct of the office currently held by Republican Todd Rokita.

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita is currently under review for a third conduct complaint. This complaint centers around an April press conference in which Rokita encouraged members of the public to sue the Indiana Department of Health, Rokita’s own client, so that he can access Terminated Pregnancy Reports (TPRs).

The complaint states Rokita violated attorney conduct rules since the health department never asked for any legal advice and by encouraging the lawsuits.

Destiny Wells said it’s time to put an end to that kind of unprofessional behavior, “we know that the Public Access Counselor, Luke Britt, advised that those (TPRs) should not be released by the Indiana Department of Health.” Wells explained to media Tuesday that’s because Indiana has so few abortions now that someone could access information provided in the lawsuit docket and eventually track down the woman who had the abortion.

“The effects of the last couple of years have caused our OBGYN’s to flee the state,” Wells continued, “this is overall having an impact on healthcare access for everyday Hoosiers.”

During Tuesday’s virtual media press conference, Wells said worker’s rights would be her second priority if elected attorney general in November. She explained her office could work with local prosecutors on issues like wage theft, worker misclass and labor trafficking, which Wells said the state attorney general’s office has the authority to investigate. Wells said this could take form as a worker’s rights task force.

Wells repeated that Todd Rokita is too focused on federal issues like the SAVE Act, which is a federal piece of legislation focused on voting access.

Wells’ last priority is a “children’s bill of rights” which is in opposition to Rokita’s “parents bill of rights.”

Wells said Rokita has overstepped on issues such as education with web portals like “All Eyes on Education”, which encourages parents to upload pictures of their child’s school work. There have been issues with verifying the authenticity of the pictures uploaded, and each piece of school work has some kind of apparent “woke” or “liberal” ideology.

“What we have seen is a pitting of parents against educators and just using children and their education as a partisan tool,” said Wells.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th.
