STATEWIDE–Hoosier military veterans with children are getting help as kids go back to school by way of the Military Family Relief Fund’s Operation Back to School Program.

Army Veteran and State Representative Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) says eligible veterans can receive $500 for back-to-school needs per dependent child living in their home. That includes children up to 18 years old attending K-12 or full-time college students up to 23 years old.

“Our brave men and women in uniform who have selflessly served our great nation deserve the utmost respect for the sacrifices that they have made to defend our freedom. This program is one way that we can help our veterans and their families. I encourage all veterans who are in need to apply,” said Aylesworth.

Household income must be no more than twice the federal poverty level, which is $62,400 for a family of four. Applications are being accepted through August 30.

Veteran and State Representative Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) says this fund also supports veterans and families with expenses like housing, utilities, food, healthcare, and transportation costs.

“The transition to civilian life after military service is often difficult, especially when trying to find a new career or housing. As high inflation continues to squeeze family budgets, this fund provides year-round grants that help our Hoosier veterans who are struggling to pay for basic necessities,” said Jeter.

You can donate to the military relief fund to give back to veterans by going here. You can also fax applications to 317-232-7721.

They also accept applications in the mail at the following address:

    Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs

    777 N. Meridian Street, Suite 300

    Indianapolis, IN 46204
