On June 20, a police officer responded to a call reporting a canine in a car in a hotel parking lot in Indianapolis. Reportedly, two dogs and a cat were locked in the vehicle. Unfortunately, one of the pups was dead by the time the police got to them. However, the second dog was lucky as the officer not only saved her but also returned to the animal shelter where she was staying to adopt her and provide her with a new forever home.

Officer saves dog from hot car death in Indianapolis, returns to shelter to adopt her

Last month, a dog and a cat were lucky the authorities got to them just in time to rescue them from a potential hot car death. Unfortunately, their sibling, a Pit Bull , didn’t make it and had already passed away by then. The German Shepherd’s quick thinking got them out of the near-fatal situation. The hotel manager went to check on the vehicle because the pup was honking the car horn.

After the dog and cat were rescued, they were promptly given water to hydrate and cool down. They had been in the car for about three hours without any water. The suspects have been arrested and face animal cruelty charges.

However, German Shepherd Abby’s story doesn’t end there. Days after saving her from the hot car, Officer S. Poe returned to the shelter to adopt her. In a little over a week, Abby had a new forever home with the public safety officer. He told People , “I met her on that run and it’s like we both just knew. I immediately started to ask about adopting her…We definitely rescued each other.”

Poe contacted Indianapolis Animal Care Services immediately after the rescue. Soon after, the officer welcomed a furry companion into his life, an outcome he never expected from one of his rescue missions.
