US Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the biannual Zeta Phi Beta Sorority national convention in Indianapolis today following on from her first presidential campaign rally in Milwaukee on Tuesday.

In her remarks, Harris previewed President Joe Biden ‘s address to the nation this evening from the Oval Office on how he plans to finish out his term, hailing his “extraordinary” achievements.

The vice president then echoed her comments in Wisconsin in which she launched a scathing attack on Republican nominee Donald Trump in Wisconsin, accusing him of trying to “take the country backward”.

“Do we want to live in a country of freedom, compassion and rule of law, or a country of chaos, fear and hate?” she asked.

The Democratic campaign appears re-energized since Biden pulled out of the race on Sunday, with Harris quickly securing support from more than 64 per cent of party delegates to become the party’s nominee for presidency.

Biden endorsed his deputy moments after withdrawing his bid for another term in the White House amid longstanding questions about his age and health.

No Democratic rivals have emerged to challenge Harris while the party raised a record-breaking $81m in the first 24 hours of her campaign.
