INDIANAPOLIS — A SWAT situation blocked all lanes of traffic on Interstate 65 Monday night.

At 9:51 p.m., the Indiana Department of Transportation’s traffic map indicated that all lanes were closed on I-65 southbound near mile marker 101 because of a “traffic hazard.” INDOT characterized the hazard as being located between Stop 11 and County Line Roads.

Indiana State Police later confirmed that a chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in the area, which created the hazard in the roadway. In a post on X , Indiana State Police Sergeant John Perrine indicated that the stolen vehicle ended up in a ditch at the end of the chase.

State police reported that the driver of the stolen car refused to exit the vehicle. Because the subject barricaded themself inside the car, a special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team was called to the scene.

State troopers used Southport Road to divert traffic around the road hazard. At the time of this article’s publication, ISP had reported that nobody was injured during the incident.

FOX59 and CBS4 crews at the scene saw police take a person into custody.

On Tuesday morning, ISP confirmed that Joshua Shepherd was the suspect taken into custody.

I-65 southbound was opened at mile marker 101 just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. State police were still present in the area at 12:40 a.m., but traffic was moving.

There's much more to this story than what was said.

Barricaded in the car... break the glass and pull him out. There was no mention of a gun so easy picking.
