INDIANAPOLIS — There’s a new affordable housing option on the east side of Indianapolis.

The Saint Lucas Lofts Apartments at the corner of New York and Rural streets stands on the idea that everyone should have a place to call home. The units are designed with everyone in mind, especially young people who may be struggling with homelessness.

“And these young people may still be trying to finish high school,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett at a Thursday press conference, “they may be looking for a job, or they may have a first child to care for.”

The 48-unit lofts were funded by non-profit group Englewood CDC, the City of Indianapolis and CVS Health. Around 12-million-dollars in total was put into the project.

The apartments are designed for people who earn 30 to 60-percent of the area median income, and the cheapest available rent price is 400-dollars.
